What are the different types of pet insurance?

1. Accident-Only Coverage

Provides a safety net for unexpected injuries and emergencies resulting from accidents. This basic coverage is a cost-effective choice for immediate, unforeseen circumstances. Read more about Accident-Only insurance.

The most comprehensive option, covering ongoing conditions throughout your pet's life. Ideal for long-term health needs, as the policy renews annually with a set amount of cover each year. Read more about Lifetime
insurance
.

3. Time-Limited Coverage

Offers protection for injuries and illnesses for a specific period, typically 12 months, with a cap on the total amount paid out. Suitable for short-term illnesses and injuries.

4. Maximum Benefit Coverage

Dog Pet

How much is pet insurance?

When it comes to the well-being of your beloved pet, understanding the cost of pet insurance is as important as choosing the right coverage. Here's what influences the cost of pet insurance:

  • Type of Pet: Insurance premiums can vary depending on whether you have a cat, dog, or another type of pet, as different pets have different health needs and risks.

  • Breed Specifics: Certain breeds are predisposed to specific health conditions, which can influence the cost of insurance.

  • Age of Pet: Generally, insurance for older pets is more expensive due to the increased likelihood of health issues, so often it is better to buy insurance for puppies and kittens.

  • Level of Coverage: We offer a range of policies from basic to premium, allowing you to choose a plan that fits your budget and your pet’s needs.

  • Location: Veterinary costs vary by location, which can affect insurance premiums.

Can I make pet insurance cheaper?

1. Choose a higher co-payment

Opting for a higher co-payment can reduce your monthly premium, making insurance more cost-effective.

2. Pick a higher excess

Increasing your excess can lower your insurance premiums, offering a budget-friendly option.

3. Go for a lower vet limit

Choosing a policy with a lower vet fee limit can reduce the cost of your pet insurance.

4. Keep your pet healthy

Maintaining your pet's health through regular care and check-ups can help minimize insurance claims and costs.

5. Look for multi-pet discounts

Insuring multiple pets with the same provider often unlocks discounts, making it more economical.

Does pet insurance cover pre-existing conditions?

A common question among pet owners is whether pet insurance covers pre-existing conditions. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Definition of pre-existing conditions: These are health issues that your pet showed signs of or was diagnosed with before your insurance policy began.

  • Typical coverage policy: Most pet insurance plans, do not cover pre-existing conditions. This is because it makes it hard to predict vet costs.

  • Exceptions and considerations: Some policies may cover curable pre-existing conditions if the pet has been symptom-free for a certain period.

  • Importance of timely coverage: Securing pet insurance early in your pet's life can minimize the impact of pre-existing condition exclusions.

  • Ask for advice: It's always a good practice to ask your vet about your pet's medical history to understand if their previous conditions can be considered as pre-existing.
